SANKOFA SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Sankofa is an Akan word (from Ghana) that means “to return and get it” or “to go back and retrieve it”. It signifies the importance of looking back at the past to learn from it and inform the future. The Sankofa symbol, often depicted as a bird looking back while moving forward, embodies this principle.

VOTER EDUCATION
The Volusia County African American Leadership Council (VCAALC) partnered with local community agencies to host a voter education community forum and workshop focused on increasing civic engagement. Through collaboration with grassroots organizations, faith-based groups, and civic leaders, VCAALC provided residents with essential information on voter registration, upcoming elections, and the importance of local participation. The initiative featured a community forum for open dialogue and a workshop designed to empower attendees with tools for voter mobilization, including how to engage others in the electoral process and advocate for voter access. This partnership strengthened community ties and promoted informed, active participation in democracy.
